For those going on long flights, mastering the art of packing efficiently is a must! After seven years of frequent trips between the United States and South East Asia, I have perfected my carry-on packing strategy. Here’s is my curated list of packing list for long flights:
Your Essentials in a Small Bag: Passports, Wallet, Pen, Lip Balm, Ear pods and such. I believe these items should be kept in sight or on your person at all times. Plus, I just love having quick access to my items.
Comfort Essentials
Never underestimate the power of comfort items. A pair of socks and a scarf are my go-to choices. I’m the type to keep my shoes on in-flight, unless I have an empty row. But grimy airplane floor and socks? No thank you. Changing my socks just helps keep my feet feel fresh.
Scarves, on the other hand, are great due to its versatility. You can double up as both a fashion accessory and a makeshift blanket, ideal for those chilly airplane temperatures.
Dual Sets of Fresh Clothes
While it might seem excessive to pack two sets, having spare clothing can be a game-changer if your checked luggage goes astray.
Neck Pillow
I highly recommend investing in a quality neck pillow, just for the added comfort during those long hours of travel. Personally, I swear by Cabeau for the ultimate support. However, if you are in a pinch, you can find neck pillows at many airports, it is going to be more costly.
Travel-Sized Toiletries
Those cabin air is super drying, so keeping a compact kit of toiletries handy for hydration and refreshing during the journey. My must-haves are: Face wipes, toner, moisturizer, face mask, and lip balm.
First Aid Kit
I always recommend e prepared for minor emergencies with a basic first aid kit containing essentials like bandages and hand sanitizer. Alternatively, you can get one on Amazon.
Ear Plugs
For uninterrupted rest, a good pair of ear plugs is indispensable. I love my Loop ear plugs, they are minimalistic and non-obtrusive, plus they provide me maximum comfort.
Entertainment Options
Variety is key when it comes to in-flight entertainment. Load up your device in advance with music, downloaded videos, and podcasts to keep boredom at bay. I’ve been caught last minute trying to download these and have always regretted it. I personally rely on my AirPods for immersive audio and noise-canceling capabilities.
Stay powered up throughout your journey with a portable charger. It’s a lifesaver for keeping your devices juiced, especially during layovers.
Reusable Water Bottle
Hydration is essential during long flights. Bring along a reusable water bottle to stay refreshed, plus you get to reduce plastic waste. Just remember to empty it out before security, you can always refill it at the bubbler after going through security.
Maintain hygiene, especially if you are in the window seat, with a sanitizer containing at least 70% Isopropyl alcohol. A quick wipe-down of your surroundings can make all the difference.
Snacks
Lastly, pack a selection of your favorite snacks. Whether the airplane food falls short or you just need a quick energy boost, having snacks on hand is always a smart move.
By tossing these must-haves into your carry-on, you’ll breeze through those marathon flights like a seasoned pro. Happy travels!
